Why do people consider hip hop love songs legitimate love songs?

I have heard these so called "love songs" by hip hop artists singing about getting it on, getting between your legs, etc. Since when was a booty call considered love? What happened to the real love songs that talked about making love, %26amp; actually having meaningful lyrics. I'm not saying I'm against hip hop, but I would in no way, consider them beautiful love songs...

Why do people consider hip hop love songs legitimate love songs?div myspace

cause they're good to make love to? haha idkk.?

Why do people consider hip hop love songs legitimate love songs?new myspace myspace.com

hip hop does not produce love songs...i'm not sure what they produce...but they are disgusting...they make the females sex objects... a hip hop love song is one that you dedicate to your inflatable female...
I agree with you, but it depends on how you define love... I'm not against hip-hop either, but I know that there are people in this world who, because of the songs and lyrics that are out today consider a booty call "love" when it is not at all. People just don't think like they used to.
You know what, you're right. A lot of these current hip-hop love songs out are by no means real love songs. To me Minnie Ripperton is the best love song singer there is. Oh and I can't forget The Isley Brothers.
Because those songs are for women who are looking for a quick fix! Back in the days, a man had to be very or appear very sincere in order to get a women, now they just have to have money or be a celebrity and they will get the women. So why sugar coat it.
well anytime you can get a man to admit a smidge of feelings its progress.lol

But seriously did Scarface ever whisper sweet nothins in anyones ear? Thugs dont hug so they have to keep it real and keep it hood, no I dont consider them LOVE songs but in the hood that is how it goes down. Ever been to a hood hop?

Trust me the fellas talk so slick those songs sound like love songs after you here some of the **** I've heard.

You're asking for two different things: The best hip hop songs, and new songs. Fact is, new hip hop has nothing on the "good ol' days," Young Joc, Mims, T-Pain is garbage compared to Run DMC, BIG, etc. etc. etc.

You want good new hip hop? Check out the new Nas album, and peep that remix of Where Are They Now, with redhead kingpin, spinderella, etc.

Jay-Z's a classic, but his new stuff isn't as hot as his old joints (AKA reasonable doubt and Vol. 1).

Lil Wayne is a pretty hot newer artist.

you've just brought up a very controversial question here, because, as you may have already noticed, there are 2 types of listeners here: the ones that listen to mainstream and the ones that listen to the underground. i myself prefer the underground because it is more socially-conscious, thought-provoking, but i am not going to decide what kind of music you listen to.

from the underground sector, i am really digging "mecca to medina(570 A.D.)" by euphrates from the album "stereotypes incorporated." I don't really know what you consider "new." Does that mean that it gets airplay on radio stations or does the song have a new music video out?

For most underground songs, the writers do their thing not because they want 15 seconds of fame on TV, so you won't find many underground music videos on TV......well, there you go...

Emcees: Ill Bill, Pharoahe Monch, Eminem (when he was in his prime of course) %26amp; Apathy.

DJ's (for the cuts): Q-Bert, DJ Craze, Mr Thing %26amp; D-Styles..Premier could do additional cuts on his tracks (cause you know he's the man at that)...I know I missed out some legends like Rakim, Easy Mo Bee, Nas etc but I would just love these artists on one record...and people who dont like Hip-Hop, dont waste your time posting silly comments, its getting tedious.

Why do people think hip hop is degrading?

if hip hop is so degrading to women, then why do a good portion of the female population listen to hip hop

Why do people think hip hop is degrading?myspace tweaks

because women like the beat and dont care!

Why do people think hip hop is degrading?top 10 myspace myspace.com

It is not music
because the ones that do knows they dont act liek the women portrayed in the music the ones who DO act like that behind closed doors are the ones who care so much about it

i.e the chicks at spellman who were on oprah i kid u not i saw them broads in a club about a month ago shaking they asses
degrading lyrics are degrading lyrics, regardless of the type of music that accompanies them. One could surely put degrading lyrics to Mozart, etc. if they were so depraved.

However, the trend has been that the singles making it to the charts and playlists on the radio, and the videos making it on television, focus more on treating women as objects rather than as individuals, as well as focusing on violence, selfishness, and irresponsibility.

As to why a good portion of the female population listens -there are a LOT of people with problems out there...
Your question assumes that all hip hop degrades women, and I can't speak for all female hip hop listeners, but for me as a HH head, the majority of hip hop that I listen to does not degrade women. When I do listen to hip hap that degrades women I could care less, I am not the type of woman that they are referring to, I am actually the opposite of them.
Because they are stupid. There's no other way to put it. They look past the obvious objectification of women and like what they see. "Bling", cash, cars, sex, parties, drugs, expensive alcohol, mansions... "If you listen to my music, this is what you can expect." It's all a buncha crap.
I don't think hip hop is degrading i love it. people have their opinions and you have to look at like this mind over matter you don't mind and they don't matter. so don't worry about who likes or dislikes your music you are your own person listen to and be what you want forget what others think they probably don't like it cause they are old or can't dance to it or just don't like it. But if it is what you like listen to it forget them they are no you and you will be who u are Don't let anyone try to control your style it can be tragic for you if you do. Be u and be proud of who you are and what you like.
well women are like that. as long as the beat is pop and theyre tricked into thinking its hip hop, and the artist is "cute" theyll like it no matter what. but some are smart and conscious and i got alot of respect for them.
Because 90% of women are ignorant and really can't decipher what the song is saying. All women should just go back to the kitchen.
i personally don't think it's degrading.. but it's maybe because of the foul language used.. we listen to it because we like the beat.. :)
Normally when a Hip Hop song comes out, that last thing anyone listens to is the lyrics because the beat obviously makes one nods his or her head to the beat. We usually don't pay attention to the lyrics until some time has passed. Hip Hop today isn't the same as Hip Hop from the early to mid 80's. People actually rapped about having fun, but these days, everybody wants to rap about all the materialistic stuff they own. This is probably why a "good portion of the female population" listen to this stuff is because they are attracted to that stuff. You also can't listen to Hip Hop today without hearing, "F this" or "F that" or "Bit** this" or "Bit** that" or "Bustin a cap" on this and that. Then when these artists win a Grammy, they're quick to Thank God. What a big contradiction. One of the few artists today that are really positive are: Will Smith and others like him.
they only use those girls in the video to sell it. sex sells. never forget that. its the way it is even though its not right. and besides those girls in the vid are getting paid right? its their job and theyve chosen to be dancers. in answer to your question women know all of the above.
i think its more the videos that are disgrading than the music itself
The terms like *****, ho and general "slap her down" attitude doesn't promote a good self image for girls or women. Not to say all hip-hop contains these messages, some of it does have truths about society and can be entertaining. Peer pressure drives young women to listen and even promote it. Never underestimate the power of peer pressure.
They think hip hop is degrading because they call women degrading names and mainly talk about getting rich and sex like it's the most important thing in the world.

It brings down the black community because things in the media seem to stereotype certain groups.

And just because a good portion of the female population listen to it doesn't mean it's not degrading. They chose to ignore it and sometimes agree with it.
i dnt no bout other girls but when i listen 2 it i dnt care cuz i dnt look at it like there talkin bout me or all the girls jus the ones that shakin dey a$$ for dem
Most think its not talking about them, but yet when you go to the club a guy can just walk up from behind and get a dance. Now your sayin this happens with most music, but hip hop started it and most women just fall in line after a while. Its kinda womens fault to cause they keep doing it for the men in the videos. Karrine Stephens may have felt bad for what she did, but she really just inspired other women to degrade themselves. If you have to show your body for money then you must not have a lot of skills or brains

Buy or Sell: Underground Hip Hop is overrated?

I don't know how many times I've heard people say that all mainstream hip hop sucks. And that the only thing worth listening to is underground. ALL mainstream doesn't suck, just most of the stuff on the radio. But there is more mainstream than that around. It just doesn't get a lot radio play.

Another thing, I don't think that some people even know what underground is. Lupe Fiasco is no longer underground. Neither is Common, Nas, KRS-One, Lil' Wayne, or Cassidy. Correct me if I'm wrong but an underground artist is one that has NOT been signed by a record label.

What are your thoughts on underground hip hop?

Buy or Sell: Underground Hip Hop is overrated?hidden myspace

how is it 'overrated', 80% of people havent heard it yet. its not in the media either. so no one even rated it yet. just opinions on the internet.

Buy or Sell: Underground Hip Hop is overrated?myspace generators myspace.com

i think its overrated by underground fans, who think underground artists are god's greatest gift to hip hop
Most are "underground" for a reason. They shop the same trash as those established, and there is only so much room for the same teenie thug bop hip pop on the radio stations (95% of their playlist). . .
the definition of mainstream is the stuff on the radio.....

an underground rapper can be defined how ever you want it to be defined.....
Most underground hip-hop has a message and is very clear. You're right most mainstream does not suck such as Nas, Jadakiss, Eminem, Young Jeezy, Chamillionare, ect. To underground fans, yes, it is overrated but not well known as it should be.
by purely underground fans, hell yes. it gets so annoying hearing about all these rappers i never heard of talking about random *** **** over strange beats. i listen to underground a lot but if i only listened to it i would strangle myself
Underground hip hop is great! Mainstream hip hop everyone talks about the same thing everyone else is talking about. Also when someone gets hot in mainstream hip hop, next thing you know.. he's on everyones album or song "Lil Wayne, Akon, T.I. etc..". It gets old! Underground hip hop there is variety, you got the old gangsta sound, dirty south, west coast etc..
The thing is how do you define mainstream? for me its the music played on the radio (or getting massive public exposure). Therefore perhaps the stuff you listen to thats not on the radio is underground? Underground hip hop is not overated, its underrated...thats why its underground. And your right.....most people dont really know what an underground artist is. People here always drop lupe's name or lil brother without really knowing. For me underground artists are Soul Position, Panacea, LMNO, Blu %26amp; Exile, Camp Lo and other such artists. But it seems if you drop an artists name down on Y!A like this, you catch a major case of thumbs down.
it is underground for a reason
people who say underground hip hop is overrated dont know what there talking about. the underground is where the real hip hop lives amazing beats and intelligent lyrics why wouldnt you want to listen to that over the same garbage repeated over and over and over again for those who dont dig the underground i hope you drown in the mainstream...

What gives you the right to tell an artist that they're not hip hop?

That has to be the most disrespectful thing you could ever do to an artist. Go ahead and talk **** about them, tell them they're the scum of the earth and whatever else your tumored brain can think of, but don't ever tell them they're not hip hop. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they're not hip hop. Just because they don't sound like 'this' or 'that' doesn't mean they're not hip hop, or 'real hip hop'. What the **** is real hip hop? How can hip hop be fake? Is there fake water? Fake Oxygen? Etc.? You see how dumb that sounds? That's how you sound when you talk about real hip hop.

What gives you the right to tell an artist that they're not hip hop?big brother myspace

when they really suck and display no hip-hop understanding, realness, and seem so commercial they reek of "just wanting to sell records" but hey, we ARE entitled to our own opinion, just like you are...

First of all, you don't know me, so you don't know what I call hip hop lol. Second of all calm down, I think you lettin this hit a little too close to home... unless... wait... are you a real rapper and did somebody tell you you're not hip hop?! LMAO
You never heard the expression 'The customer is always right?' The person telling someone they're not this or that is the customer, the person being told is selling themselves as something or another. If the customer doesn't want to buy it, that's the customer's right, and it's always the customer's right to state that they aren't buying it. Hip hop artists are no different than any other artist, or any business person selling something of arguable content. So get off this whole tired 'disrespecting' nonsense. People have had and always will have differing opinions of style, genre, any subjective matter of personal taste. So let the person you agree with have their opinion and disregard it if you disagree, and move on. There are far bgger things in life to get worked up over.

If you want to target your Abs Hip Hop Abs is excellent! as long as you keep good form! The Cardio is very good to help keep you in fat burning mode.

They real key to seeing toned abs is Diet. There is no amount of ab work that will fix that and to get the lean ripped look you really need a clean low fat Diet. That is also why I recommend Hip Hop abs because it gives you the extra cardio to burn the fat :)

i advise you to drink green tea 1-3 glasses per day

green tea speeds up your metabolism

drink lots and lots of water 8 glasses each day.

do not snack

do not eat 6 meals a day, try to only eat 3

if you are really hungry and you've had all your daily meals snack on fruits ( oranges, apples, bananas )

exercise more try and run for at least 30 minutes a day

get more active

get more sleep it prepares your body

stretch, yes it works and it doesn't just help you lose weight it helps with you're growing to make you a little taller

count your calories try to stay under the amount of 1300 calories per day

change you're lifestyle it makes a difference

do not eat candy or chips eat more greens or protein bars

avoid fast food and cut out fried food when you cook your meal oven cook your food do not fry it

chew gum because when you chew gum you do not pick at food for example if theres some chips in you're cupboard you go to them a think good damn they look good then you would say no i cant pick at them because i dont wanna throw my gum away

do not eat after 6pm because before 6pm you can burn all you're food off and if you eat after six it will lay on you're stomach as you eat.

do not eat before you go to sleep

drink a glass of water before you go to sleep

drink plain hot kettle water because it speeds up you're metabolism

do not weigh you're self everyday because it torments you, weight you're self once a week ( every Monday )

good luck!

you can safley lose 2 to 3 lbs. a week

also for abs try, lay on your back, put your hand over your head on the floor you can even hold on to something heavy to keep you down and then lift your legs up and down it burns but it works really good! %26lt;3

i liked hip-hop abs better!
I am currently doing P90X and I absolutely love it! Keep in mind it will take 90 Days and sometimes you don't even see results for the first 30-45 days. But if you want to make a lasting change P90X is the way to go.

I cannot speak about Hip Hop Abs, as I have not done it. But I love P90X, can't say enough about it.

P90X works, because of something called muscle confusion. There is a different work out for every day of the week. Your body won't know what hit it.

Hope this helps.

Why is Rap or Hip-Hop blamed for everything?

Why is Rap or Hip-Hop blamed for everything, I recently heard of an article that blamed (or at least had it listed as a factor) the NFL's Sean Taylor death on hip-hop and i wonder y our (Blacks or Africans living in america) music is being blamed for everything wrong in america.

Why is Rap or Hip-Hop blamed for everything?deleted myspace

Because everyone wants to have an excuse for why people aren't doing the right thing, instead of holding them accountable for making bad choices. Rap/hip-hop is not putting a gun to anyones head and making them do anything.

Why is Rap or Hip-Hop blamed for everything?myspace names myspace.com

Because most people don't understand it and when most people don't understand something, they automatically think it's wrong. Ignorance!
Cuz' everybody has this sterytype of rap and hip hop being about drugs, sex and doing stupid stuff!!!! It's sooo mean!!!
Because it promotes violence, hatred and an illegal lifestyle as though they are normal.
RAP AND HIP HOP IS BLAMED BECAUSE IT TALKS ABOUT SHOOTING PEOPLE AND GETTING LAID AND RICH WELL MAYBE JUST MAYBE THOSE KIDS WANTED A TASTE OF THE RICH LIFE AND BROKE INTO THE HOUSE AND SHOT THE FOOTBALL PLAYER CAUSE HE WAS AT THE HOUSE AND THOUGHT THEY CAN GET A WAY WITH IT
Because people are stupid enough to think that music alone can influence kids to go try to sell cocaine. Why arent the movies blamed when everyone knows a visual has more impact on people than anything. They are basically giving the kids the ideas of how to do it in movies.

Idiots will be idiots because music is not worse today than it was back when 2 Live Crew and NWA were out doing their thing in the late 80's early 90's. Taylor came from a bad part of a city, so do millions of others who listen to the same music. I graduated from college and still listen to hip hop and rap. Taylor never defined who he was through music he did that on the field. So who cares what he listened to.. it has no bearing on his life. Aquaintances and friends, old and new play a bigger part in someones life than songs on the radio.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed how music became the scapegoat amidst the Don Imus situation. Our own Black politicians and major figures who fell into that trap like Al Sharpton and even Oprah who i just knew was brighter than that. They let him slide for his own personal feelings and views and attacked their own people. They might as well have not even said anything because Imus is back on radio now.... Protesting and complaining did nothing if your not gonna stick to your guns and say nothing when he goes back on radio.

Everyone blames someone other than themselves for everything nowadays.
The true answer to this question is....because a lot of people are STUPID enough to be significantly influenced by it. I love rap and hip-hop. It presents and plays out a fantasy world that I can't experience, and probably actually wouldn't want to, myself. However, some people are not that smart and are very negatively influenced by it.
because the only thing rappers talks about is money, sex, drugs, and killing ppl; which they have never done. if they were to do something like that everybody knows they would be locked up by now. for example: project pat use to talk about drugs, sex, and killling ppl all the time. and every since he got out have you noticed that he doesn't talk about killing ppl anymore?
because thats all white people do. they blame

face it people, u can find sex and drug in ANY genres of music, not just rap. white people usually blame hiphop because black people make it popular. rock and heavy metal are like white people's hiphop. rockers = make up, emo, worship devil, gothic, retard
yeah true true........ i guess ppl just dont understand it..... i dont think there is nothing wrong with it i like it.... im more into chicano rap though... u know... mr.sancho, lil rob, duende, kinto sol, mr.capone-e, snapper and the madd glock click, and soldado (others just 2 lazy 2 write)
um its an excuse because most parents know about the music that kids listen to BUT not the ' big stuff' like pornography and other stuff u know

so 'they' try to hide their mistakes by blaming it on hip hop

think of it like videogames bring blamed for everything but it does have minor 'mistakes'

It's stuff they play in Caves in Afghanistan and Mining Towns like Coober Pedy in South Australia or gaining enlightenment in Tibet. They perfect the Acoustics of their Environment to sound like the Hip Hop you would hear in a Club, your Car or the comfort of your Crib. This is because they spend a long time below the surface and often don't come out for days, weeks or years and must entertain themselves somehow.

Whats underground hip hop?hack into myspace myspace.com

Hmm underground hip hop is like the kind of music that talks about life or something common is an example of an underground singer
it's not different from hip hop it's just made by people who arent' signed artist that's all.
Generally speaking 'underground' artists rap about a different subject matter than their commercial brethren. Songs focus more on personal issues, politics, relationships, and philosophy, and tend to be more introspective and self-critical. However, underground hip hop also has roots in battle rapping, and "****-talk" songs are quite common, as many underground rappers display the egoism and braggadocio common to rap music. Underground production tend to be diverse, drawing on such musical styles as jazz, funk, electronica, and techno, as well as more traditional hip-hop for beats. The music can also be more lyrically diverse and have less repetition than mainstream rap. Some artists also avoid lyrics that are violent, misogynistic, or involve cursing [1].

Basically not mainstream popular stuff, unknown rappers
Any hip hop you will never hear or see on mtv and the radio...
Check out the Anticon label. They've got about the best

Hip Hop that isint heard in the Radio or Tv or Hip Hop you dont hear to much and artist that you dont hear or see to much thats underground Hip Hop

simple and to the point underground hip hop is hip hop that has not been released or produced by a major label
All these folks are WRONG! UNDERGROUND MUSIC is the music that is the rawest of the raw, the realest of the real. What you definitely don't want your kids to listen to.

Unfortunately, we of the hip-hop generation of the late 80's to mid 90's are gone. It makes me laugh when I see young light coloured men cruising around in their $30,000 cars with Jay Z or 2Pac blaring on their stereos. These were the guys who in my time, turned their noses up to us darker skinned people and our hip-hop music. In our time we had to go to special record stores or order it from America to find our music, now...the market is saturated. It no longer means anything other than "make money for me, me, me". IT IS LOST AND GONE FOREVER.

Is the world of hip-hop losing it's appeal as a voice of the unheard?myspace.com music myspace.com

lol hip-hop has essentially phased itself out. by using itself to market products it has essentially become a corporate entity itself, thus eliminating the future potential for true art to come from the genre.

i would blame those like puff daddy and jay z for this one, they essentially ruined the genre of hip-hop. Before 1996 you didn't hear 2 Pac, Snoop Dogg or Dr. Dre doing anything but representing where they came from and who they are, which is what art is about. Remember the Doggystyle and Chronic music videos, every item of clothing they wore they blurred out the brand name, now they center on it.

These people are no longer musicians anymore in this genre, they are puppets. They RARELY have any control over the songwriting or production of their own music, they are just there for the commercial image (pretty face). There are still a few good ones out there, but they are dwindling fast.
Losing? It's lost it's voice in the late 80s. Once again, producers took music that said something and squeezed as much profit from it as they could tell it became irrelevant.
For the most part it has with many groups just selling out to sell records. You can still find some underground artists though that are a "voice of the unheard." Also, Common is somewhat holding true to the roots of hip hop
Hip-hop and rap have morphed together as a meaningless fad. A lot of people just write lyrics that have girls, cars, money, drugs, and the streets in them to be accepted by mtv and to have their shot at the big time. I am yet to come across a hip hop song with a meaning other than I got shot up in the street today or I lost my "boo." Hip-hop was never really the voice of the unheard because once it evolved from jazz and pop it caught on extremely quickly. I hope that gives you an answer.

*USB* Microphone for Rap/Hip Hop?

I am looking to buy a USB mic for recording hip hop and rap. I have all the software I need ... now just need a good mic. So far I have come across:

- Blue Mic's Snowball

- M-Audio Producer USB Mic

- MXL's USB Series

I do not want to spend more than $100.

ARE there any others that are better? Which USB mic do you recommend for rap hip hop?

Here is the mic I use.. the Samson CO1U

http://www.amazon.com/Samson-CO1U-USB-Co...

and here is what my home recordings sound like.....

http://www.myspace.com/dzynehiphoppage

Just remember you get what you pay for. I myself record at home as a "rough draft" type of song. I get a poor man's copywrite of the song I make post it and get feedback. Then I take the songs that I feel strongest about and also take in consideration some of the feedback from others and go to the studio. It still is very possible to have a studio at home that produces just as great of quality as a "real" studio...but you really have to know what you are doing and have the right equipment. Recording at home also can give you something to listen to in case you havent mastered the breath and wordplay you want to use on your song. You can record your song listen to it over and over...so that when you make your final copy...you know exactly how you want to come across on the track...One last thing with any Mic you may want to get a Pop filter (wind screen) and sound proof foam ....if you dont already have those.... Good Luck

Does anyone like alternative hip-hop?

I go to Morgan State University and we had a forum on alternative hip-hop, basically hip-hop that is used to empower oppressed people (really all poor people who are oppressed by the system).

Personally, I don't think hip hop empowers people in a conventional way. It economically empowers the people who make the music (which is great by the way) and sometimes educates, even inspires, but I think it's incorrect to assume that a song can help a poor person out. But anyway, I do like "alternative" non mainstream hip hop.

Immortal Technique, Rage Against the Machine, Akil Ammar...those are some of my favorites.

One of the professors up there at Morgan State, Dr. Ball, is all about the alternative hip hop. He has a show on WPFW.

Definitely the early 90's and before.

Who all likes the hip-hop out now? or do you like '90s and before hip-hop?myspace pages myspace.com

i agree. i jumped off in about '93. i miss BDP, Eric B and Rakim, and Public Enemy most of all.
I agree. I hate the way the "crunk" people are all over TV it's irritating they're lyrics are so stupid it doesn't even relate to the song they just try to rhyme with random words %26gt;_%26lt;.

Good hip hop = nice punchlines, rhymes relate and make sense !!

Well that's my 2 cents, have a nice day =]
i love and i miss the old stuff too! i hate all this new junk thats out right now...its irritating, repetitive and just plain STUPID!
My favorite hip-hop/rap era was 1988-93, especially when hip-hop, hip-house, and freestyle were played side-by-side.
To me, after Biggie died, things haven't been the same since.
I loved hip hop as i was growin up in the 90's

now i hate it
Before hip-hop
No offense, y'all a bunch of old heads reminicing on the past. Y'all can't see past y'all own generation. Hip Hop is good and well in the 21st century. Yeah sure there is a lot of mess on the radio but no real hip hop head listens to the radio. Its about the underground. There are plenty of good rappers out today. Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, and Ludacris with their remarkable lyrical talent. Nas, Killer Mike, Outkast, Devin the Dude, The Game with their ability to tell stories like that of Slick Rick. Common, Talib Qweli, Mos Def, Little Brother, and the Roots with rhymes that provide food for thought. None of y'all can genuinely say that Hip hip today isn't good.
I think that in 2004 through 2006 the music was a whole lot better than what it is now i think it is just pointless now.
I did like the early years in hip hop they talk about real stuff. now they talk about shotting ppl, gettin head, and getting money
i like the hip-hop thats out now but only bcuz of the beats (the language...?) but i miss the 90's hip-hop they only talk bout violene, drugs and sex
I like the hip-hop now but the songs are a little more worse and nasty them songs back when I was a shorty (which was only a few years ago).
'90'z and before Hip-Hop..............cuz i'm a 90's babii..........so i likk it before
Hip hop now is so much better, i love it with all the new beats and sophisticated sound. The hip hop from the 90's was boring in my opinion.
i like it know because the dances are better and especially rock yo hips

Why do so many people focus on hip hop but not other forms of music?

Disclaimer-I listen to rock 90% of the time so i'm not actually sticking up for hip hop

I just find it kind of hypocritical and contradicting to focus on hip hop and the negative lyrics when you have metal, namely heavy metal and death metal, along with black metal, screamo that obviously promotes aggression and antisocial behaviors.

Another point, it's pretty well known that there's a violent subculture in the black community. But what seems to be conveniently left out is the suicidal, self-harming, drug abusing, Trenchcoat-esque, anarchist, anti-authority subculture among white teens, many of whom listen to these metal genres described above.

So why just focus on hip hop?

FYI- I primarily date white guys so don't assume i'm being a racist. I just notice the differences in what our society tends to focus on.

Your thoughts?

Why do so many people focus on hip hop but not other forms of music?layouts for myspace

Perhaps you forgot about in the 80's when Twisted Sister and other rock stars had to testify in front of congress. Or Ozzy Osbournes lyrics were put on trial for a fans suicide. They do focus on other musics, it's just hip hop is popular now and that's the focus. I think what makes hip hop so suseptible to criticism is the society is so politically correct now. No racial or sexual slurs are appropriate in any circumstance anymore. And hip hop is littered with them. This fallback has happened before to other forms of music. It's just today, hip hop is taking it's hits. Freedom of speech will prevail no matter what.

Why do so many people focus on hip hop but not other forms of music?famous myspace myspace.com

It could be racism.
I have never listened to hip hop...not even sure what it is.

BUT

Let people listen to what they want. Just because I like or dislike a form of music is no reason to force my opinions on others

Unless its country...that stinks
wtf r u talkin about have u not seen all of the scene/emo kids runnin around lately... im an example of scene...............ummmm yeah

You go girl!!! Finally someone with keen eyes and ears~!!!

To answer your question: It's just easier to focus on blacks and hip hop. Blacks have been the center of attention since slavery, and will continue to be the negative topic of everything from music to education or lack of.
first thing first its because hip hop is the best and because hip hop is simple, no noise like rock n roll, when u listen to it u feel it
It's all stupid crap.
Talk about your blanket statements. Have you ever listened to metal? I do. I grew up listening to it. It never caused me to do any of the things you are accusing metal of doing. Music has nothing to do with someone being anti-social or a drug addict or anything that you stated. Anyone can be that way no matter what genre of music they listen to. You remind me of the P.M.R.C. Musicians and other artists have the right to express themselves. If you don't like it, change the station. I was just looking back over some of my answers and realized that I did not actually answer this question. The reason people are focusing so much on hip hop right now is simply because that is what's popular right now. When I was growing up it was metal. When my mom was growing up it was Frank Sinatra. If people don't understand or like the music they start hopping up and down shouting about how it's ruining the youth and the culture etc. Beethoven was practically considered the anti-christ in his time. To put it simply, it's fear.
I like this question. you seem to be a person thats worldly aware. i don't think anything will ever change as long as everyone keep pointing the finger at everyone else. i hear you saying, i'm not taking sides, just making an observation. I appreciate that and i agree with you. God bless
I know what you mean, all the mix cds out today like the "Now thats what I call music" cds are mostly hip hop songs, and MTV all they play is hip hop, and also on the radio. I like hip hop, but i also want to hear rock and pop too. So I just stick to Buzz Ballads. (its an awesome cd, by the way, since you like rock)
Hip-hip is what is selling right now. Other forms of music aren't generating as much money for the music industry, so the media focus isn't on those types of music. Also, hip-hop isn't just about music, but fashion and style, which is also generating lots of money and turning people into celebrities overnight. Other musical genres may contain controversial lyrics, but nobody knows what they are because they don't have the accompanying clothing lines, fragrances, reality shows, or any other media exposure.

Back in the 80's, heavy metal lyrics were under scrutiny for "adult content" because that was the more popular genre of the time. Everybody had big hair and wore lots of leather and Tommy Lee was married to Heather Locklear. In the early 90's everything was briefly grungy and alternative and the media was pushing everyone to put their children on antidepressants and ritalin because they were listening to music with lyrics that were "too dark".

Now, Puffy or Diddy or whatever that triffling little homely child is calling himself these days has helped promote hip-hop based upon equal parts of fashion, partying, and controversy. The media has embraced this lifestyle as representative of "black culture" (please!) and ignorant little suburban teenagers are eating it up.

Don't worry. As soon as popular music cycles to the next phase, we will be told that some other genre's lyrics are "ruining our society", blah blah blah. Music is all crap right now anyways. It's not like it can get any worse.
Because we are living in the most depraved, infantile, and debased era in history.

According to a lot of artists and record lablels the midwest is the next big thing for hip hop. unfortunately when they reference the midwest they specifically talk about chicago being the next big place for artists. im not a big mainstream hip hop fan but i do love the underground and up-and-coming acts and the stuff going on in chicago is tight. with kanye being one of the most prominent artists in hip hp right now a lot can be done for the midwest if the people have the right connections

Sorry no talent Midwest Negroes with no talent and big loud mouths just do not become successful rappers or hip hop artist. you are living a pipe dream. now wake up hon its all east coast or west coast thats IT!!
Midwest has plenty of talent. Eminem, Bone Thugs, Lupe, Kanye, Twista, Tech N9ne, Rhymefest, Royde da 5'9, Common
I think the hip hop market is wide open still. Its rare when I get interested about Hip hop. There are so many cookie cutter acts out there. acts like Buster Rhymes, Eiminim, Ice cube, have always had alot of attitude in there tracks. And had a great way with the music. Like i said there is still alot of room for more rap stars. Just make us something we can remember!!
I think the mid-west does have a fighting chance i mean...rap wise i dunno..i dont really like rap u kno...its too mainstream...same sh1t over n over again...now if we can bring REAL hip-hop back...that, my friend, would be history that will surely put us on the map and keep us there for a while R%26amp;B is also good cuz over here in the Chi..we got jazz..and R%26amp;B and jazz go hand in hand...so if we can get people to understand not to follow the crowd...i think well be on da map...just my thoughts

My question is. HOW. ? is Hip Hop bad ?

Okay. So. My input. is. The " questionable lyricists. " Sticks and stones may break my bones _ But Words will never hurt me. You ask. How can they talk "bad" on one. Use the N'word { the modern version . ***** . not ****** } You ask where the difference. How can they call one, male/females *****, etc

1. Point. The words of choice. Describe the view of their art, poetry. Some words jst fit better, then the other. A Thesaurus.

* They seem only to see the bad. And never the good. An intellectual. Intelligent person. Not all HIP HIP, talk about drugs, sex, etc. Have you've seen/heard of the good. The songs with a positive message. Or do you give no credit to them . " Even the Ones who talk about the sales of drugs. and etc. Is a marketing of what they have endured. A hard shift. In which they can help someone else. live a better life. not making the mistakes they have made.

2. Point. The N'Bomb. In which a new generations made good from evil. Just Like . The song . Yankee Doodle . The British made this song up. to poke fun of the Americans. Which turn out in the end. An "American" Classic. In that case, Took evil. into a form of good. ... ....

3. Point - In the videos. You say they paint a bad image of the female body. But How? I ' ask you. Isn't it ART. The music. Paint a picture to what they see. Or feel to be pleasing. .. What about to statue of David. A full naked male. But where the double standard . What about Micheal Angelo . Art from century's ago. Full nakedness. But the problem we only see is in the Rap videos.

... My question is. HOW. ? is Hip Hop bad ?

My question is. HOW. ? is Hip Hop bad ?myspace comments

Hip hop is bad if that is the only image portrayed of one group of people. While that may not be true, most Americans equate hip hop with the life of all African Americans in their society today.

While I do not disagree that there are some positive messages in some rap songs, the context and manner in which they choose to portray their message and their art do not seem to get that point cross to their audience. A movie, play, painting or song can be brilliant in its message, but if the audience does not understand it, then there is no point.

Your other point about creating a bad image of the female body is something that I have not heard before. I have heard that the videos are degrading and debasing to women because they treat them as sex objects that only exist to pleasure a man. Not because they are thin or fat, but because they have no ideas or thoughts of their own, have no value, are stupid, and if they couldn't provide sexual pleasure are absolutely worthless.

Your last point is turning a bad term into a good term. I assume that might be the case with the N-word, but it just seems like there are much easier and more effective ways to do the same thing.

For the past few years, the hip-hop/rap world has been run almost entirely by commercialism and has started to get more and more "trendy" and is losing more and more value in its lyrics. And since about '04-'05, snap music became popular and ever since then, has been all that's being talked about in rap. Although I'm not gonna mention names, most rap that's getting the right type of publicity today is a group of five dudes singing the same lyrics. It seems now that

Things like this is the reason why people are saying that "rap is crap", "it's just noise with a beat", and that rock music is better, which I don't believe is true because I like them both.

Aside from this, rap %26amp; hip-hop today still has value in both lyrics and beats because some rappers and emcees (whom don't get the right amount of publicity) are still speaking the truth. Common, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli to name a few. But, if you haven't noticed some rappers are losing their touch (Snoop: Sexual Eruption). It seems that nowadays all you need for radio play is to come up with a dance, cook up a beat, and put together the same lyrics.

*MAIN POINT*

I'm tired of what seems to me like an ongoing war between rap music and rock music. I like them both. To me, it's simple and plain, but to most it's split between black and white, which helps support close-mindedness to the ignorant. IT'S THE SAME CONCEPT. They've both been protested against by those who don't understand it, they both have numerous stereotypes, and they've both collided at one point.

Run-DMC %26amp; Aerosmith

Jay-Z %26amp; Linkin Park

Ludacris %26amp; Sum 41

The Game %26amp; Travis Barker (of blink-182 %26amp; +44)

Limp Bizkit %26amp; Method Man

The list goes on. There's NO difference.

*AND ONE MORE THING*

I'm sick and tired (with every other unbrainwashed rap music fan) of people saying that Lil Wayne is "the best rapper alive: and that "he is hip hop". Don't get me wrong I like him and all, I like Da Drought 3 and look forward to Tha Carter III, but come on y'all he's been hot for what, three years. Back in '99-'00 when he was with Cash Money he was garbage to most, but when "Go DJ" and "Fireman" came out, he gained popularirty, then he came out with mixtape after mixtape after mixtape, sampling other beats and using similes on 'em like he's in the third grade. And now people think he's God's gift to the genre of hip-hop.

*Conclusion*

Hip-hop's not dead, it's just not being seen for what it is right now. Nas makes a good point, but it's not over. I hope this blows over quickly.

Here's some good hip-hop/rap to look into:

Common

Mos Def

Talib Kweli

Ludacris

T.I.

OutKast

2Pac

Notorious B.I.G.

Eminem (mostly old, some new)

KRS-One

Will Smith

(old) Snoop Dogg

The Game

Kanye West

Beastie Boys

Black Star (Mos Def %26amp; Talib Kweli)

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Cypress Hill

(old) Busta Rhymes

LL Cool J

Wu-Tan Clan (or anyone from it)

(old) Jay-Z

(some) DMX

Lupe Fiasco

Nas
It is only 5ft under at the moment,But not long to go for the 6ft depth.
dying b cause if the record labels could jus drop all these artists that does all dis crunk.hyphy, snap music and all these other artists who jus make a sloppy album that jus has one hit song to it then the game wouldnt b so messed up.

Is hip hop dancing good exercise?

and is it like, the same as break dancing? if not can you learn break dancing in a hip hop class?

Is hip hop dancing good exercise?myspace ip

You won't learn anything about breaking in hip hop dancing. Generally, I dislike hip hop dancing.

Is hip hop dancing good exercise?myspace co myspace.com

Hip hop dance does not equal breakdancing.

Great exercise, though!
wow
any kinda of dancing is good exercise, especially if your moving quickly and getting your heart rate up.
Yes, but it's not as good an exercise as breakdancing. Any exercise where you move more, use different muscles, and work harder is (obviously) a better exercise. I don't think you can learn breakdancing in a hip-hop dancing class if they are two different types of dancing, but that's just me.
of course it's good exercise

i take hip hop class myself along with ballet jazz and modern

i get all of my flavor from hip hop and it's one of my favorite classes cause i can just let myself go

im noticing that im really good at it too because people are saying "she's so good!" and stuff i get kind of embarassed though because every one's always watching me to see what i do

well anyway, hip hop is a major workout and it gives you lots of flavor in other dances too, you should take a class on it!

hip hop isn't the same as break dancing

break dancing is all skill and ive been to a couple of dancing conventions with hip hop(its really fun)

you also need a TON of upper body strength (especailly in freezes)

i haven't learned break dancing in a hip hop class but i have from conventions, and a dance spirit magazine, like the basic arm roll, baby freeze, and a six step

you should totally check it out (breakdancing) maybe even take a class on it

+it sure as hell is a workout!
hip hop is a great excercise that challenges the body and the mind. its not a dance, its a cultural revolution. hip hop and break dancing arent the same thing.
well, hip- hop dancing is great excercis because you move so constantly. Depending on who your dance teacher is they might be able to show you how to break dance, which by the way is not the same as break dancing but it does fit in the ctaagorey of hip-hop dancing! hope this helps

~*Emma*~
depending if you are in the mood to dance to the music.. yes and no.. but about your break dancing.. no and they teach very little of break dancing during class.. if they did, it would probably be just the basic.. nothing to extreme like spin on your hand or pop it and lock moves that are extremely hard to do..

Women of Color In Hip Hop?

As A long time Hip Hop fan I've long been disturbed bythe images and attitudes directed towards women . I HAVE HAD IT WITH HIP HOP? I cant watch a video or listen to a song anymore. Dont get me wrong there are a few artist that keep it real but the majority is garbage. What do you think? Be real get 10 Points. Thank You for your time.

Women of Color In Hip Hop?how to view private myspace

I really don't listen to it at all unless I'm in a vehicle with someone else who is listening to it. Even then I don't like it too much. A lot of the things they say and depict are degrading and just pointless half of the time. I'm the only person in my household who thinks this and they all judge me. i just get tired of the cursing and name calling and superficial things that don't really matter... I mean, my little 5 yr old sister parades around saying she wants a grill. I'm like what the? People think I'm weird because I don't like to listen to it but, that's their opinion.

Women of Color In Hip Hop?girls myspace myspace.com

I agree, I love listening to hip-hop but I can't stand to watch the videos.
I thinks women are responsible for their images and attitudes. Hip Hop is just a reflection of the artist reality.
Yes, the majority of hip-hop is garbage now. I don't blame the artists, it's the women. They have the choice not to present themselves in that way. Hip-hop has always been misogynistic and it doesn't seem like it's changing. Many of theses video hos need to stop making Black women bad and get a real job.
Well, i hate watching/listening to a lot of the rap music that's negative. But, artist make it cuz it sells and women portray themselves as sluts and prostitutes because it gives them exposure on television and money.........sad, isn't it? what a shame.

Some of the women feel that's the only way to provide for a child.........and some just say, i got the body so I'm a show it.

Has Hip Hop......?

Has Hip Hop Degraded women n the past 20+ Years

Has Hip Hop......?myspace tweaks

Some rappers have but HIP HOP hasn't.

EDIT: I wonder how many people will view this incorrectly (I'm guessing about 75%)

Has Hip Hop......?top 10 myspace myspace.com

No.
not more than any other american pastime.

i.e. cheerleaders, playboy bunnies, rock videos...
No.
Yes, very much so. Thats a big part of Hip Hop's appeal..... the "hoes" and "bitches" as most rappers affectionately call females. Realistically, this is done because there are several women whom encourage this type of behavior. They are usually found in strip clubs, the chicks that wear "seductive outfits" (hooker uniforms) showing thier goodies but then getting upset because men view them as sexual objects, and females that like "bad boys" or "hoods".

In laments terms, if females taste in men improves, hip hops overall objectivity of females will improve. But till then...... all we will get is p poppin on a handstand.
i think hip hop has degraded women in the past 20 years, especially in more recent years, when a sense of materialism started to take over mainstream hip hop.

but then again, the entire music industry seems to have grown more and more corrupt through the years, and women are being viewed more and more as objects. this is the reason why girls like britney spears or jessica simpson got big in the first place, and why female artists who can actually write and sing have been ignored by the media...... (sorry i'm getting off track here).

i think that the state of mainstream hip hop in recent years has been degrading to both men and women. dumbing people down to sell a lifestyle to tha masses. enticing people with an impossible ideal, playing on our insecurities and most primitive instincts. and the only one who benefits is some guy wearing a suit sitting behind a big desk in an office with a nice view, laughing all the way to the bank.

the only way to stop this is to stop buying into the ideals they are selling you!! refuse to buy into the idea that our appearance and material possessions define who we are. these ideals are hurtful to ourselves and only benefit the corporations and businesses that don't give a crap about you and only want your money.

sorry i sort of went off there and went in all sorts of directions.......

short answer to has hip hop degraded women in the past 20 years?

yes.

and it's also degraded men too.
its oly degrading if u take offense to what is being said if the women they talk about in the music isnt the woman u are or want to be or try to be then f uck it just do u
No.

Hip hop as a movement is not responsible for what certain rappers may choose to portray in their lyrics, any more than rock as a genre can be held responsible for rock videos protraying women as anorexic prostitutes.

If lyrics bother me, I don't listen - nobody's forcing me to.

And if I want a role model for my daughter, I'd pick MC Lyte or Lauryn Hill over Britney and Madonna any day.
YES it has and i dont say yes very often
Everyone woman isn't a HOE or a *****. If you're a woman and you get offended by those kinds of words, then you're probably a hoe or a *****.
I would have to say no. Reason being no one can make someone do things that they dont choose. If your a female video model and the roll calls for you to be have naked you then have a decision. You can choose to take the roll, indicating that you dont have a problem with it or you can make a stand and turn it down. Lets be honest sex sells and if your a young, well built sexy woman the companys want to use your body to help sell a product.

Ps Hip hop is a movement / culture. Rap is music!!!!
Rappers: Yes

Hip-Hop: No.
yeah a lyric that come to mind is bizzare out of d12

"all bxxches are wxxes even my stinkin @ss mom"

i think that is pretty bad

What is today鈥檚 Hip Hop missing?

For simplicity purposes, I am grouping ALL HIP HOP together to include underground and mainstream.

Everyone keeps saying that Hip Hop is not dead but I can鈥檛 think of anyone that is really blowin up!

The 80鈥檚 had Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane etc..

The 90鈥檚 had Pac, Big, Rakim, Nas, Jay Z

What does the millennium have? Here we are going on 2008, the decades almost over and I can鈥檛 really name one BIG name!

And I know people are going to give me the same tired list of Common, Talib, Lupe etc.. I like them, but I don鈥檛 LOVE them. And underground needs to step up their game.

*NAS BY HIMSELF* overrides all the current acts. Hands down.

Let鈥檚 face it, the 2000鈥檚 really didn鈥檛 BLOW UP as in previous decades.

Agree or not?

What is today鈥檚 Hip Hop missing?myspace.com widgets

I agree with you. I think a lot of what hip hop is missing today is great production. Back in the day the beats were off the chain, it seems now days the beats sound like they cater to elementary kids.

Agree
I agree today's hip hop is definitely missing something. Not sure if it's the hip or the hop. Maybe it's just getting played out and we need something new?
hip hop is missing people who can drop solid albums, and arent just one-hit wonders. every artist on the radio today will be a distant memory by next month. i can't think of a rapper who debuted in the last 3 years who dropped a classic album, can you?
This decade has:Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, (A Better than before) Lil Wayne and when you think about it, Jay Z overall was better this decade than in the 90's. Andre 3000 has evolved into

a unbelievable lyricist. Plus the best battle of all time was this decade, which was Jay Z and Nas.

We need to stop comparing decades and enjoy the music.

MICHEAL: Wat the heck are you talking bout?!!!! No hip hop cd as gone platinum in the first week since The Massacre. Also, Kanye outsold 50 Cent. Stop spreading wrong facts!!!!
Well there's always some exceptions, but I have to agree with you, I didn't really feel anything "blow up" in this decade. A lot of it (not all) is disposable.
I'd say it's missing the most important thing...

MUSIC!!!

Hip-hop is trash for the ignorant... only serves to perpetuate the stereotype... if you know what I mean
Different age different type of music...RUN DMC sound nothin like Pac and dem. Pac and dem don't sound nothin like the music now but T.I. is ill, Lil' Wayne is jus stupid wit it and kanye west been doin his thang for a minute too. Hip hop gotta evolve and change or it gets boring and wont touch as many people as it could it has a much bigger fan base now becuz rappers are more fluid these days and the 90s are over nobody wants to hear about death and struggle all the time.

And T Junior wat do you mean u lil bit(h cuz i dont get it u lil peckerwood mufukca
B-A-L-A-N-C-E is what today's hip hop is missing
Individuality

Everyone is changing the game, but it still remains the same.

I agree with you 200%
soul, lryics yea hip hop isnt dead but in a sense it is, cause of all the fakke rappers like souljia boy and his gay dance
Missy Elliot

Timbaland

Outkast
i agree but cmon man...Common and Talib? theyre both in my top 25 of all time (Common is 10 on my list and Kweli is 25). theyre really good...about the best lyricists in the game rite now (next to ppl like Jay and Nas)

but besides those 2...yea nobody..
Lyrical content. period. Everything is beats and yelling.
Hip Hop has seen a big name during the 2000s...

50 Cent has been the biggest rapper of the new millenium along with Eminem and Jay-Z continuing his run.

50 has sold 30 million records off of 3 solo albums. He's a worldwide star, as is Eminem.

Nas has not put a dent in the mainstream or Hip Hop period since 2001 with Stillmatic, but I love Nas as an artist.

The group I love the most is Little Brother. They have great songs and great albums(all 3 albums are classics), but they have yet to gain sales.

Hip Hop is not dead musically, but sales wise, things are different. People are downloading albums nowadays... If they weren't, here's what the sales would have been for 50 and Kanye.

50- 1.6 million the first week, 3.5 million total as of now.

Kanye- 1.3 million the first week... 3.2 million total as of now.

Lloyd Banks-Rotten Apple would have went gold, Young Buck would be at 800k right now

Soulja Boy would be gold now, Common would be at 800k on his way to platinum, Hurricane Chris would have sold 150k his first week.

Nas' Hip Hop is Dead would have went 2x Platinum, Jay's Kingdom Come would have done 3.5 to 4 million.

Hip Hop isnt dead, downloading just ruined it pretty much

I would like some good suggestion on remixes and hip-hop versions of great jazz tunes. I already have the three volumes of Verve Remix and Us3's version of Canteloupe Island (Cantaloop). I would love to get some remixes of Miles or Coltrane or any of the great hard-bop masters done to a hip-hop style.

I think there is a remix album of Blue Note Records classics. Try getting the Blue Note Records catalog.

There is a album by Greg Osby called My Little Brown Book. It has the same blend of the hip-hop and jazz. You might like it. Thats the only Greg Osby of that style, so don't get his others if you want hip-hop to be part of the sound.

I got curious and found this-http://www.bluenote.com/CatalogVariousAr...
I know on one of chingy's songs, he stole a descending, enharmonic lick from Jaco Pastorius' Portrait of Tracy and looped it ad infinitum for a backup beat.

Real Hip-Hop Heads,What's the most racist thing you've seen happen?

We鈥檝e had some pretty good discussions about hip-hop, but this question is kind of different. What's the most racist thing to happen to you, or you saw happen to someone else? Something that really sticks out in your mind, and what鈥檇 you do, how鈥檇 you handle it, tell the story?

Real Hip-Hop Heads,What's the most racist thing you've seen happen?deleted myspace

Well my issue goes a little deeper than most. My mother is black, and my father is white. I have been my fathers little hidden secret for the last 27 years. I don't know any of my white family because of racial barriers. You see they don't even know about me, because my father was too chicken to bring me home to his family, he just never got around to it. God forbid my father bring home a little ***** child, I suppose they wouldn't be cool with that. I didn't even get to meet his mom or dad. I stopped all communication with him about 4 years ago because I became tired of the BS. He will never meet my son, I feel why should he get that privilege when I've been played all these years. I think it has made me a stronger person, and also makes me really appreciate the family that I do have.

Real Hip-Hop Heads,What's the most racist thing you've seen happen?myspace names myspace.com

Im up in LA = pretty diverse city.

Anyways, during my junior year of high school, while staying after school for some extra-curricular thing, there was about 12 of us or so, and we were all just chilling, when we were supposed to be studying. Me and one of my friends are sitting at our table, and in front of us are two white kids, and in front of them two girls, one who's half-black.

We were all part of the same team, though we were still getting to know eachother. We were supposed to be studying the Civil War, and at my school there's a lot of racial jokes that occur (sterotypes and the ish, personally no big deal for me). One of the white kids in front of me says: "damn, why did they have to end that ****. We need to bring slavery back. I wouldn't mind owning a couple ni***rs myself.....one of them starts dancing or bad-mouthing me, and I'll tell him 'f*** up ni***r, before your master has to backhand you'."

I was speechless to be honest. Alot of stuff just messing around is said all the time, like the stuff you'll hear Chapelle or some comedian say, but this white kid actually said that, and was pretty serious about it. I was gonna say something, but having someone half-black directly in front of them, I didn't wanna do anything that would be out of line, so I waited.

Didn't have to wait too long. The girl in front of them (freaking genuis btw, she was the only one on the team to beat my score) turns around, and just starts telling the white kid off. The white kid stands up as if he's gonna do something, so I stand up and push the **** out of him, and then we start arguing. I'm freaking pissed, and unfortunately, I took a swing right as the college counselor of all people walks in.

She sees me deck this kid, I saw her, and I backed off. 30 minutes later, after meeting with the colege counselor, the dean, the team's coach, and an assistant principal, the decision was quickly made to expel the kid, and to give me a bunch of community service to do at the school, since I had alot on the line regarding college.

Still has me tripping out that this kid actually said some ish like that though. I'm Hispanic btw...still a Hip-Hop fiend.
This happened in the early 90's late 80's. I lived in a section of Brooklyn that was predominately white in some parts of it. One week in the local paper it reported that black family's house was firebombed because they moved on an all white block. They constantly messed with them to make them move away but they didnt so they fire bombed them.

Then one night a few of my class mates were walking from the area where my JHS was at which again WAS mostly white. They gotta chased by five high school white kids with hockey sticks...One got beat till his head busted and had get stitches. Smh they werent doing nothing but walking home.

These are things that may have happened to other ppl...But it sad that it had to be. It made me realize that things are really just coming to a change for minorities. These events happened for real not that long ago. I have realize that us as a ppl have come a long way. Now my old neighborhood is predominately black and hispanic...I guess the local paper was right when they talked about "white flight". Where are they gonna run to. smh We are every where.

The difference now is that the "RACIST" ppl hide it...U think these ppl are just all gone. Some ppl dont want to recognize that it still does exist. They dont want to remember the defining moments that happened to our families back in the days. Then they wonder why we angry and that we should just forget about the **** becuz look at what yall can do now. Do we forget the holocaust? NO Didnt yall pay the asians after yall wrongfully put them in concentration camps back during WW2. Yep...But "THEY" dont want to recognize our struggle, they want us to forget. But as long as the Jena 6 type **** exist and young white folk can hang nooses, I cant do that..
i live in Mississippi, and i see it all time. this happend to me and a friend. i am white he is black.

we was at the mall, and just got back from Babbage's (its a game store). we bought about 3 games. we was walkin to another store and a security guard stopped us. he said whats in the bag. we showed him, and he said we stole it. that he just got a call about it, and we fit the description. we showed him the reciet, and he said we didn't have one. he took us to the little office and made us call home. the parents came and settled it.

it gets worse. we tried to go into another store and the alarm went off, so we was takin again and was told that we was addicted to stealin.

it dont get worse then that.
This guy at work was going off about this black guy and how he is cocky and big headed, then he looks at people at the table and says well thats how all of them are, and then tries to get everybody to agree with him. I still cant believe he would try to force other people to be racist... the thing that really bugged me is that he is a Christian and talks about church quite often. Puts a bad name on Christians too.

Im white by the way, and u would be suprised how many racists people there really are, get a group of white people together, there is gonna be at least one really racists person, and several that use the N word freely. No black person on earth says the N word as much as a lot of white people, its pretty bad, and it sucks that people feel comfortable saying that around me just cause Im white.

I just took a stand and made him look stupid in front of everybody at the table... i cant remember exactly what I said, but he wasnt talking afterwards.
My cousins and i have been followed in stores before. it wasn't even subtley either....they where very blanted about it. I'm hispanic.

I've had people ask me "do you speaka any englisha?"...Yeah, i'm only an english major, but no i don't speak english because my family is Mexican.
Black man being beat up by a bunch of eses, calling him all kinds of racist sh*t and vice versa. what sucks though is when your homie is a different race and you gotta duke it out with him or other wise you get beat down by your own, either way you still catching a beating either by the other side or your own...
Man... this is a deep a ss question. I started thinking about something that has affected me...that is racist...and I dont really have one stand out incident in my life...Maybe I am one of the few lucky ones...Or maybe I have been just totally blind to ish that was racists as hell...

I dont you know if you are familiar with Chicago...But it is one of the most segregated cities in America...People basically live in neighborhoods which there nationality is prominent...Im Puerto Rican...and grew up in a Puerto Rican/Mexican neighborhood...Now us Puerto Ricans and Mexicans always had jokes about each other...but for me it was all in fun...nothing personal...some of my best friends are Mexican, and we had mad jokes for each other...

As far as something like cops f-ing with us...that happened all the time...them biches had us out in the cold...no shoes...no jackets...They always assume somebody is slanging rocks....Ladies till this day hold their purses a little closer to their bodies...Like I wanna jackem or something...

In high school...sometimes the blacks and hispanics gang bangers would go at it and rumble...but I was a "jock" on the football team... We were like our own gang...nobody really wanted it with us...

I guess in college is where I experienced some racist ish... but a lot of it seemed more ignorant then racist...
I did Construction work in mid-town Manhatttan years ago. A job opening arose where instead of doing heavy manual labor.....the Union required one person to work at the " cushy " job of sitting in a chair all day and turning a wrench on a sandblast pot every 3 hours to turn it on %26amp; off.---Although I had a lot more seniority %26amp; was a lot more experienced-------a black guy %26amp; myself were both being considered for the job.---- After Harlem CORE picketed the jobsite with signs demanding that the job be given to the black guy----I never stood a chance as a victum of racism %26amp; the job was automatically given to the black guy.------------------------------------... ; Another time @ a Brooklyn Jobsite at the old L.I. University Building-----a Black Power group of approximately 100 guys had taken over the jobsite. All of the Contruction Workers had abandoned the jobsite because the Black Power guys were armed with axes, bats, etc. ...My Boss had me drive a truck down to the jobsite to pick up our scaffolding without telling me abut the Black Power group. --When I got to the jobsite, the whole Black Power group wanted to do a number on me; but....the Black Power leader saw that I was just one 19 year old guy who wanted to remove equiment %26amp; allowed me to load my truck quickly %26amp; go.
Once I got jumped by group of blacks in high school, school i went was mostly black, prolly cuz i dress in hip hop style etc.I and wore bandanas , I didnt know what they meant cuz i just came to America. they took my chain ,etc, later i ,went to police station reported it, took pictures of my face and took one of the guy into court for assault.

In College people were more mature, no problems there.
I've came across some evil people in my life...there are a few times that I can remember but I will only tell one.

My mother and I back in 1996 had moved to a town called Rosemont out here in IL (its near Chicago). So the town is mostly Italians and such (I am Puerto Rican), so we where the only Hispanic in the building. Our landlady lived upstairs from us. Now the only reason we got the place is because my mother's good friend knows the lady who put the place up for rent...

Needless to say stuff started happening real quick, she would blast her radio day and night. Walk all hard and back on the floor for no reason! She had an evil *** dog also.

One day my mom had enough and went upstairs and told the lady to stop the banging and you know this lady open the dang door and let her dog attack my mom. The dog bite my ma's arm and my mom called the police and you know they didn't do anything! I wasn't home at the time but my mom called me and told me. So the next day I am be on mad and walk upstairs and told the ***** threw her door to come on out Imma F*ck you and your dog up ( I had a knife w/me just in case the dog came at me) You know she wouldn't open the door for nothing.

The next day I come home from work and there is a little doll (brown skin) hanging from a noose under our mailbox! I waited and waited for the lady to come home...and when she did and walked (or should I say try to run) pass my door to get upstairs I grab her by her neck and proceed to choke the life out of her, lucky for her my mom came and pulled me off of her.

We of course broke the lease and left...but I will never forget her face or what happen.....the utter less feeling in my gut won't let me. Something I don't wish a pond anyone.
Well nothing big, but this actually happened last week.

I was walking home from my friends house in a 'white part' of Queens and a cop pulls over and asks me to walk over. He asks me if I live in the neighborhood, and i tell him i was at my friends house. He asks to see ID but i didnt have any on me. then he gets out of the car and pushes me against a wall, and starts searching me. He tells me that there's a burglar in the neighborhood and that i fit the description.. I ask him what description and he says" you know, with the hooded jacket, and backpack", like he aint seen kids with backpacks and a hood on their jacket before..... searches me for a while and keeps askin me questions like "what were you really doing here?"....later when I tell him im 17, he's like " oh". "Get outta here, dont let me see you playing around here".

I always stood up for cops, because i knew that they were trying to do the right thing, and that i shouldnt let crooked cops change my perception of how all cops are, but that just made me feel like "wtf, i didnt do anything, why are you a wack ni66a"

I talked to one of my friends about it, and i decided it was just a racist person, who happened to be a cop. But now i can understand why EVERYBODY hates cops, i still support them, tho, despite of the situation. i also realize its ignorant to hate cops no matter how many of these situations you go through.
I have been yoked up by the po...told that my girl was a black whore....was younger had rocks thrown at me called a *******....i mean a bunch of s hit happens but i put it all in perspective bc my grandparents went through so much worse....

i never had to eat out back....i never had to feel like an outcast everywhere i went....

my life by all comparisons is ******** great compared to what all of people went through....

so i try to keep it all in perspective....
I'm 33 and live in Chicago.

I used to be involved in some nonsense as a kid. Got into sports. Went to college and grad school. Now I'm a physician.

Back in the day, the CPD would pull me over and search my car at least twice a year (before I knew about warrants and all that). I then refused the search, but still got pulled over.

Now I'm a professional living in the south loop. I updraded the type of car I drive and, surprise! I get pulled over more now than I ever did before.

The point is... no matter the fact that some people to good things with their lives, the perception and sterotypes rule the day.

Shout out to BDI... I've had white friends tell me this happens.

It takes balls to stand up against that type of talk.
I'll just give a link to a question I posted a while back: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Some "genius" from our school thought it would be funny to make a repeat of the Jena 6 situation on two black owned businesses in our town. He hung some nooses from nearby trees and spray-painted "Die Ni**ers" on the buildings.

Other than that people around here are quiet about their racism. And its mostly older people who are racists. Not many kids.
I was in bakersville Ca about 7yrs ago, I was a young Army Ranger in Uniform taking vehicle to be put in the train to go back to Ga, we stopped the Mickey D's train station to get lunch. My 6 white brothers ordered their food , but I when I got to the counter to order the white girl said that she was going to serve me, when asked why, she say to my face that she does not serve any N word period, the funny thing was, the white lady behind me blew up on her, as well as all the other white people in the md's and her boss fired her immediately after hearing what had been said. this still blew my mind because I am from the south born and raised, so I excepted more intel from the west coast, but now I know better.
Someone got angry at me, and said I'm not black because I don't 'act' black. (I am half white, but it's still a pretty racist comment).
I'm in Bk-Ny and I seen and heard it all--I have hundreds of things I've seen but this was the worst---

I was with some friends sitting on the bench in the summer just chillin'.There was approx 9-10 of us occupying 2 benches. You know when there is no room left on the bench , somebody sits on the top part? Well this dude was at the top and his girl was sitting between his legs. She was sitting on the edge and her body(back) wasn't pressed against him.2 housing NYPD (white)officers who patrol the PJ's were standing ifo the bldg. Now we were there for about an hour and these 2 officers decide to walk over to us. One cop starts screaming and tell dude" Get the F off the bench". He's saying what did I do? You been right here- I haven't been anywhere what did i do? Now both cops are screaming at him and telling all of us to get up.They snatched him off the bench and threw him on the gate. They start searching him and ask's--give me your "WELFARE ID CARD" we need to see that ID. Now all of us who heard this flipped out. We're screaming-He didn't do anything #1- What makes you assume this Black Man is on Welfare #2 and #3 why you didn't ask him for just a piece of ID? In the midst of all that they called a 10-13 and now the PJ's are running over with police. Every last 1 of us that was on that bench was taken to the precint. We were all given DAT's for disorderly conduct. We all fought those summons and it was throwed out. We all called the CCRB on the 2 officers. CCRB found in our favor and stated that was a racist statement asking for welfare ID.

If we as a people don't stand for something we'll fall for anything.
