Has Hip Hop......?top 10 myspace myspace.com
No.
not more than any other american pastime.
i.e. cheerleaders, playboy bunnies, rock videos...
No.
Yes, very much so. Thats a big part of Hip Hop's appeal..... the "hoes" and "bitches" as most rappers affectionately call females. Realistically, this is done because there are several women whom encourage this type of behavior. They are usually found in strip clubs, the chicks that wear "seductive outfits" (hooker uniforms) showing thier goodies but then getting upset because men view them as sexual objects, and females that like "bad boys" or "hoods".
In laments terms, if females taste in men improves, hip hops overall objectivity of females will improve. But till then...... all we will get is p poppin on a handstand.
i think hip hop has degraded women in the past 20 years, especially in more recent years, when a sense of materialism started to take over mainstream hip hop.
but then again, the entire music industry seems to have grown more and more corrupt through the years, and women are being viewed more and more as objects. this is the reason why girls like britney spears or jessica simpson got big in the first place, and why female artists who can actually write and sing have been ignored by the media...... (sorry i'm getting off track here).
i think that the state of mainstream hip hop in recent years has been degrading to both men and women. dumbing people down to sell a lifestyle to tha masses. enticing people with an impossible ideal, playing on our insecurities and most primitive instincts. and the only one who benefits is some guy wearing a suit sitting behind a big desk in an office with a nice view, laughing all the way to the bank.
the only way to stop this is to stop buying into the ideals they are selling you!! refuse to buy into the idea that our appearance and material possessions define who we are. these ideals are hurtful to ourselves and only benefit the corporations and businesses that don't give a crap about you and only want your money.
sorry i sort of went off there and went in all sorts of directions.......
short answer to has hip hop degraded women in the past 20 years?
yes.
and it's also degraded men too.
its oly degrading if u take offense to what is being said if the women they talk about in the music isnt the woman u are or want to be or try to be then f uck it just do u
No.
Hip hop as a movement is not responsible for what certain rappers may choose to portray in their lyrics, any more than rock as a genre can be held responsible for rock videos protraying women as anorexic prostitutes.
If lyrics bother me, I don't listen - nobody's forcing me to.
And if I want a role model for my daughter, I'd pick MC Lyte or Lauryn Hill over Britney and Madonna any day.
YES it has and i dont say yes very often
Everyone woman isn't a HOE or a *****. If you're a woman and you get offended by those kinds of words, then you're probably a hoe or a *****.
I would have to say no. Reason being no one can make someone do things that they dont choose. If your a female video model and the roll calls for you to be have naked you then have a decision. You can choose to take the roll, indicating that you dont have a problem with it or you can make a stand and turn it down. Lets be honest sex sells and if your a young, well built sexy woman the companys want to use your body to help sell a product.
Ps Hip hop is a movement / culture. Rap is music!!!!
Rappers: Yes
