I remember when rappers were doing the knowledge. Dropping jewels on microphones for the kids and older people trying to maintain in life and keep their head up. Hip Hop is more about females dancing in videos, looking scandalous and skank! Even the Black Eyed Peas went commercial when they put that female in their group. I remember when it's all guys just 3 of them 1998, "That's the joint that's the jam!" just for an example. It's like no one wants to talk about reality, or what they've went through in life. Waking up the conscious mind of people. I honestly wish conscious rap would come back and we can throw all this teeny bop hip hop out the window. I want to send shout outs to KRS-ONE, Gangstarr, GZA of the WuTang clan, Common, Kanye West, Scarface, Ice T, Rakim, Juvenile, Chamillionaire, E-40, MosDef, TwalibKweli, Ice Cube, and rappers from Texas holding it down and on the west coast as well.

I don't know. Rap really went down the crapper! I think it started with the whole gangster rap craze. No one wanted to be viewed as "soft." Kids today have an extreme level of selfishness, apathy and disrespect that is spurred on by today's rap. My personal fav. rap song from the conscious movement era was Ed OG and the BULLDOGS, with Be a Father to Your Child. I think they need to rerelease that song for today's men.

Conscious rap is still awaiting a true champion to rise to the cause. As soon as a performer can rise who is smart and talented enough, and brave enough to make it accessable (no cursing/vulgarity so mainstream radio can play it), then he or she will bring it back to the forefront.
I cant' wait for that to happen so that pretenders and sell-outs like 50 Cent and Snoop will finally fade into history.
Totally agree..They have to re-release that "old skool" stuff again ! This " new" rap drives me nuts. And I love hip hop...but not this new form of it.
Do you remember when Ice Cude accually rapped ? Man, that was a long time ago. I must be getting old :(
What happened to conscious hip hop? For the most part, it's been relocated to the underground circuit. There's still some good quality hip hop around if you know where to look.
