I say true hip hop in mass media is a pipe dream. Dumb monkey *** morons like lil john rule the airwaves to the point where if you make quality music and intelligent rap, you are considered "under ground. Is hip hop dead or do you think there will be a time when we will see amazin musicians like "Blakalicious" and "Deltron 3030" make the big bucks?..your thaughts please.
Whats goin on with hip hop?myspace songs
good hip hop has always been underground. artists like mos def and blackalicious go against the grain and make rhymes and positive hip hop their mission - the point of commercial hip hop is to please the masses easily and efficiently - hence the radio. as for the big bucks question - i don't think money is the number 1 thing on their mind. with their music hitting fans like you, their job makes it all the more worthwhile.
Whats goin on with hip hop?myspace.com blog myspace.comside note: the last guy ranting about how hip hop = the ills of all society probably blamed marilyn manson for what happened at columbine. don't listen to him because the uneducated do nothing but put the blame on others and breed hatred. that's my 2 cents for the day. and thanks! Report It
why are u hating on lil john? he makes some great music
Like everything. It sells, it's mainstream, it doesn't it's indi. Theater, Music, Movies... everything.
My son is an up and coming hip hop artist whose lyrics are REAL, deep, and thought provoking. :) And I know there are many other artists out there like him. Just gotta keep your ears open.
As an original B-boy from when hip hop first started iI have to say the industry has went to hell in a hand basket. Nothing is original anymore and how many different ways can you rap about smokin' bud or shotting somebody? The only good thing about hip hop is the *** shakin'
Nearly all hip hop today is r%26amp;b or dance. One dimensional shallow drivel for the masses. All the videos of 'em in limos with girls in the pool? Jesus! People like Chuck D have to work so hard to get heard when he's talking about REAL subjects, it's wrong. How many people know Paris is still recording? Not many I suspect.
I think that a young white man, you should be horrified at the cultural poison that being foisted off as "music". First, let's get some terms straight. Rap is not music, it's noise. Hip hop is the bastard stepchild of rap, a watered down version, to make it's cultural poison more palatable to non urban law abiding youth. It glorifies rape, murder, criminal behavior and the ghetto criminal culture. It has no place in polite company, and anyone with any sort of moral upbringing should reject this poison without hesitation. I believe it was Lena Horne (ask your grandpa. She's a gourgeous black actress and singer from the forties) that said that she wouldn't take rap to a dog fight.
If you feel anger and outrage at the circumstances we, as a nation find ourselves in, then there are plenty of culturally appropriate musical expressions to reflect this outlook. Punk rock comes to mind, in particular Green Day.
The day will come when when you will need to make a decision about what side you are on, the side of loyal Americans, or the side of the disloyal urban criminal element. Believe me when I tell you that these hip hop and rap animals would not think twice about spilling your guts on the pavement, and passing your sister around for their pleasure simply because you are not, and never will be, a true member of their gutter society.
In the mean time, have a long, honest look at yourself, who you are, and where you want your life to go. I sincerely doubt that you look forward to the day when you kill your first police officer, or do your first stretch of hard time. These are the values that rap and Hip Hop celebrate, as well as misogeny, hate, and perversion.
